Learn Sinhala is a free, community-driven project. Sri Lankans teaching Sinhala using technology — that's it.

We want anyone to learn the Sinhala people use in everyday conversation: at home, on the bus, over short eats and with family. Travellers, diaspora kids, partners and curious beginners are all welcome.

Free means every lesson

No ads. No subscriptions. No paid unlocks. No waiting until tomorrow for the next lesson. Take as many available lessons as you like and repeat them whenever you want. New lessons will be free too.

Sounds first, real conversations next

Start with the sounds, then everyday words and sentences. Our dedicated second lesson teaches the eka pattern: familiar English nouns with Sinhala. You can begin speaking without memorising the alphabet.

Built with our community

Technology helps us share lessons and pronunciation, and community feedback helps us improve them. Suggestions, corrections and ideas for lessons are welcome. More lessons are in development; available lessons have no daily limits.
